On entering the development phase for a proof of concept, there was already the intention to make use of Symfony based largely on desk research. Rather than dive straight in to coding at that point, a more thorough evaluation has been carried out based on Symfony: The Fast Track, a book by Fabien Potencier, Symfony’s founder and CEO. The goal was to establish the extent to which Symfony could provide core components for Sigala.
The verdict? In his concise and extensive work, more showcase than tutorial, Fabien Potencier provides a strong case for Symfony as a mature framework with a rich library of components suitable for a wide range of projects. This gives reassurance that we can press ahead with its use for Sigala, quite possibly across the whole development lifecycle, into production and ‘business as usual’. A selection of notes is available based on trying out the code (and making various tweaks).
Owing to this evaluation and other research considerations, particularly ongoing investigations into the linkage between wellbeing and social capital, it is now intended to deliver a proof of concept in summer.
